Governor Soludo Chukwuma of Anambra State on Saturday swore in 20 commissioners with one charge to prepare for service.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that those who took office were previously authorized by the State House of Assembly.
Soludo, who inaugurated the commissioners in the state executive council chamber, Government House, Awka, charged them with providing optimum service to the people of Anambra.
He said his administration would declare a state of emergency in all sectors, starting with security.
“Due attention will be paid to all sectors, starting with security, which we have already started to do something,” he said.
Soludo said the assignment of portfolios to each of the new commissioners before they were sworn in was a clear departure from familiar tradition.

“More than 22,000 people applied to serve, of which more than 1,000 indicated interest in serving as commissioners.
“It is from this list that we chose the 20 commissioners and another commissioner nominee yet to be approved by legislators because I submitted his name after the initial list was submitted,” Soludo said.

He said that each of the commissioners will be given their electoral manifesto, the Anambra Vision 2070 document, and the report presented by a transition committee before delivery.

He called on the people of the state, especially the families and close relatives of the commissioners, to make sure they don’t ask too much of them since their services are more to the state.
Responding on behalf of her colleagues, Sylvia Ifemeje, Justice Commissioner and Attorney General, thanked God and Mr. Soludo for their appointments, adding that they would not disappoint the state.
