PREMIUM TIMES investigative journalist Ibrahim Adeyemi has been shortlisted for the 2022 edition of One World Media International Journalism Award.
Adeyemi earned a place on the long list of ‘Memoirs of Carnage’, his two-part series about the slaughter of innocent villagers of Benue state by Nigerian soldiers avenging the murder of their colleagues by bandits.
The story was published last September by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), his former workplace.
Mr. Adeyemi’s month-long report was shortlisted along with “150 shortlisted projects in 10 categories.” the organizers said in a statement on Tuesday.
“More than 600 entries from 101 countries and territories were submitted for the international award,” the statement said, adding that “the quality and diversity of entries was outstanding and it was difficult to choose just ten in each category.
“The final three nominees in each category chosen by our esteemed panel of judges will be announced on May 4, and the winners will be presented at the awards ceremony on June 16, 2022.”
Adeyemi is joined on the long list by Aakash Hassan, a freelance journalist in India, Andrei Popoviciu, another freelance journalist, New Lines Magazine’s Asser Khattab, The Telegraph’s Harriet Barber, Insider’s Prakhar Deep Jain, among others.
An English Language graduate from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Mr. Adeyemi has a proven track record of excellence as a journalist covering terrorism and banditry. He is an expert in secret filming, undercover reporting, and breaking news coverage.
