Representatives, Amaechi, Irabor and others in closed meeting

The leadership of the House of Representatives is currently in a closed-door meeting with the Chief of Defense Staff, Lucky Irabor, and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechifor attacks on transport infrastructure in Kaduna.

The meeting, which began at 3:00 p.m., was also attended by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, the Director General of the State Security Service, Yusuf Bichi, Minister of Aviation, and Hadi Sirika, among others.

These officials had turned down the House’s invitation to a hearing last week. Instead, they sent representatives, but Vice President Idris Wase, who chaired the session, refused to allow the representatives to speak on behalf of their principals.

Wase had reprimanded the officials and adjourned the meeting for another date.

The House had ordered House leaders to investigate the attacks on transport infrastructure following a motion introduced by Nnaji Nnolim (PDP, Enugu).

Mr. Nnolim had tabled a motion regarding the attack on Kaduna airport by bandits, which resulted in the death of a guard. The motion was amended to include the terrorist attack on the Kaduna-bound train on Monday last week.

Speaking before dissolving in executive session, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said the House hopes to explore other options to address insecurity in Nigeria.
