Armed men killed two police officers on Sunday. Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, South East Nigeria.
Silas Okolie, a resident of the area, told PREMIUM TIMES that the gunmen were operating from the Oko-Ekwulobia area, but could not say if the attackers also killed any residents in the area before targeting FRSC officials.
FRSC spokesman Bisi Kazeem confirmed the attack in a statement on Sunday.
He said the gunmen opened fire on the officials around 2:45 pm while they were carrying out routine patrolling along the Igbo-Uku-Uga route in the Ezinifite area of the state.
“A team of Federal Road Safety Corps patrol officers made up of an officer, a driver and two other staff members on patrol operations have been attacked by unknown armed men resulting in the death of two staff members, one of them with serious injuries,” Mr. Kazeem said in the statement. statement.
He said an officer escaped through the bushes while an injured team leader was being taken to the hospital.
Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi condemned the attack and mourned the families of the deceased officials, Kazeem said.

Oyeyemi said the FRSC was working with the police and other security agencies to track down the gunmen.
The attack comes three days after gunmen killed a security guard and stormed the Nnewi South Local Government Council headquarters in the state.
