the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Jigawa State Command, has confirmed the death of nine people in a fatal car accident that occurred on Friday in the Ringim local government area of the state.
Commando Public Relations Officer Ibrahim Gambo told the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) that 50 people suffered various degrees of injuries in the incident that occurred around 6:15 am in Ringim-Chaichai on Kwanar shafar road. .
Gambo said the incident was reported to the Corps around 6:23 a.m. and they responded by arriving at the scene around 6:30 a.m. and taking the victims to Ringim General Hospital for medical attention.
He explained that 70 people were involved in the accident involving an articulated vehicle (DAF Trailer) with license plate TAR 357 XA, driven by Babangida Muhammad.
The spokesman attributed the cause of the crash to a speeding violation by the driver of the vehicle.
However, the Police Command in the state said that 13 people were killed while another 32 were injured in the incident.
In a statement, police public relations officer Lawan Shiisu said the truck, loaded with more than 50 passengers, cattle and goats, was from Maigatari LGA and headed for Lagos state.
“That on April 1, 2022, at approximately 06:30 a.m., information available to us revealed that a trailer truck with license plate TAR 357 XA, loaded with approximately 53 passengers, cows and goats from Maigatari LGA and headed to Lagos State and driven by a certain Babangida Mohammed, 28, from Azare LGA in Bauchi State, had an accident.
“The unfortunate incident occurred when the said driver lost control while reaching a point called Kwanar Shafar in the Ringim area and as a result the vehicle fell and overturned.

“A team of police officers went to the scene on a rescue mission, where 13 people were found, namely; Sani Alhaji-Ado, 25, Saleh Yusuf, 53, Aminu Mohammed, 35, Haruna Maigari, 20, Haruna Ubali, 25, Abdurrazak Lauwali, 30, all from Maigatari LGA, Abdulmutallib Hamza, 20, from Kaugama LGA, Anas Ibrahim, 35, from Garki LGA, all in Jigawa state, Naziru Khalid, 30, from Gabasawa LGA in Kano state, Nuraddeen Mohammed, 25, from Dangora Dingas in the Republic of Niger and three others who have not yet been identified, were confirmed dead.
“Similarly, some 32 people were taken to Ringim General Hospital for treatment, where four of them: Adamu Gagare, 30, from Maigatari LGA, Ado Habu, 20, from Kaugama LGA, Rabiu Ibrahim, 35 , from Machina LGA in Yobe State, Arma, 40, from Dokin Fulani in Katsina State, were referred to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital, Dutse, for further treatment,” Shiisu said.
He added that the Police Commissioner in the state, Aliyu Sale, has sympathized with the families of the deceased passengers and has sympathized with the injured.
The spokesman quoted Mr. Sale as advising drivers to avoid speeding, overtaking, making or receiving phone calls while driving.
According to him, the police chief also urged drivers to inculcate the habit of checking their tires, brakes, other essential parts of their vehicles, as well as making sure they get enough sleep before embarking on trips. (YAYA)
