Gunmen attack Kaduna airport, killing one official

Unidentified gunmen attacked Kaduna airport on Saturday, killing a Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) official, identified as Shehu Na’Allah, on the tarmac.

The airport manager, Amina Salami, confirmed the incident to Channels Television.

She said the bandits invaded the airport through the perimeter fence of a nearby forest around 1 p.m.

He said the deceased security guard, Mr. Na’Allah, was patrolling the tarmac when the assailants shot him.

However, Salami said soldiers at the airport responded immediately and repelled the attack.

“The sound of gunfire attracted the attention of armed security officers who arrived at the scene and were able to repel the bandits entering the main airport complex,” he added.

The attack delayed the takeoff of a scheduled plane bound for Lagos.

Armed operatives from the Nigerian Air Force and other military personnel took over the internal and external areas of the airport to hunt down the bandits, Television Channels informed.
