Police in Lagos state have arrested an officer who was caught on a viral video harassing a motorist for a tinted permit.
An online publication Lagospy who broke the news of the officer’s arrest, identified him as Dele Reuben, a police inspector.
The report, which does not state when Reuben was arrested, said the officer was “currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings” at the Lagos state police headquarters.
Acting Spokesperson for Force Headquarters, Abuja, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared on twitter the newspaper report on the arrest of Mr. Reuben.
“We will catch them and do whatever it takes to let Nigerians know that these are infidels, unpatriotic and deviant,” Adejobi said in another tweet shortly after.
“The current leadership of IGP Usman Alkali Baba will not condone indiscipline and inappropriate behavior from any sector of the NPF,” he added.
“I have promised to name and shame them; some people cannot be damaging the image of the police just because they think they are unknown or untraceable. No way,” he said in another tweet.
The police spokesman had previously informed Nigerians via Twitter that the police had banned the issuance of tinted glass permits and therefore officers should not require tinted permits from motorists.
“This order on tinted window permits is not new, it has been there since June 2021. All police officers know that the police have suspended the issuance of tinted window permits.

“Now you know what I’m saying. Expose them because those who demand it are misguided,” he said in one of the tweets.

“I am a taxpaying citizen, so there is no wrath of the law,” the driver replied confidently.
Mr. Reuben then told the angry driver that he was dealing with “a high-ranking police officer”, referring to himself.
The video was uploaded to Twitter on March 21 by a user, @OsasenagaEno, who appeared to be the driver who had the encounter with the officer.
“This guy claimed that the fine for not having a permit was N100k and that we had to go to the station. He quoted imaginary sections of a law to reinforce his point. At Ikeja station they made me pay a fine of N20k without issuing a receipt,” said the Twitter user who uploaded the video in his comment on the microblogging site.
