
One person has been confirmed dead and several people injured after a three-story building collapsed along Ahmadu Bello Way in Kano state.
The state fire service revealed that only two workers were caught in the hit as the building collapsed.
A statement issued by the service’s spokesman, Saminu Yusuf, revealed that while one person was rescued alive, the other victims were found unconscious and later confirmed dead.
Although the fire service spokesman was unable to determine the cause of the incident at the time of filing the report, he hinted that a preliminary investigation was launched to unravel the incident.
“Today is Thursday March 17, 2022, our formation received an emergency call at around 1:39 p.m. from the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) reporting an incident at Ahmadu Bello Way opp. State Library,” Yusuf said.
“When our men arrived in the area at around 1:46 p.m., they found a 3-story building approximately 200 X 200 feet, which is under construction with different workers inside, such as masons, carpenters and many more.
“The top floor is underdeveloped, it has collapsed and covered two people. Danjuma Tijjani, about 52 years old, was successfully rescued alive with serious injuries. Rabiu Musa, about 32 years old, was rescued unconscious. The other victims walked away with a minor digression of injuries.
“All the victims were transferred to the Muhammad Abdullahi Wasai Hospital for medical attention and Rabiu Musa was later confirmed dead. Victim handed over to Corporal Zilkifulu Sulaiman of the Nassarawa Police Division. The cause of the incident is under investigation.”
