Advantages and disadvantages of democracy: Generally speaking, democracy refers to the type of political power in which the government is viewed as serving the people. The majority of countries around the world, including Nigeria, are now using this model of law as a basis for their legal decisions. The democratic principle appears to be a very beautiful thing. But why aren’t many democratic countries wealthy and content with their lives? The answer is straightforward: because democracy has both advantages and disadvantages, as any system of government.
Advantages of a democratic system
- The principle of separation of powers into three branches — legislative, executive, and judicial prevents power from being exercised arbitrarily. As civil society has grown in importance, some media outlets have gained significant influence over the government.
- The activities of the state are overseen by institutions that exercise control over them. First and foremost, this is a universal electoral system, which provides citizens with the opportunity to constrain the scope of governmental power. Among the citizens are members of various social groups, each with its own specific interests. Even in democratic environments, the decision-making process can be drawn out and drawn out.
