The Plateau Chapter Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)on Sunday, he advised eligible Christians to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to participate in the general elections of 2023.
Polycarp Lubo, a Reverend Father, who is the president of the association in the state, gave the advice at the Pankshin Catholic Diocese 2022 Lenten Campaign Launch in Kabwir, Kanke Local Government Area of the state.
The campaign had as its theme: “The participation of Catholics in politics: a panacea for good government, peace and national development.”
According to the president, PVCs remain the only tool Christians can use to elect credible leaders in 2023.
He advised Christians to participate in the electoral process, adding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had improved the electoral process while fraud and other bad practices had been reduced.
“With the new Electoral Law many things are going to change in our electoral process; INEC has also stepped up its game.
“This simply means that the era where people feel like their votes don’t count is over.
“So Christians, particularly those who have reached the age of 18, need to go and get their voter cards in order to fully participate in the 2023 general election.
“Your voter card is your power. It will allow you to vote for credible, good leaders who will move the nation forward,” she said.
Mr. Lubo also called on Christians currently in public office to lead according to God’s will and desist from acts that would tarnish the image of the church.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the diocese uses the Lenten campaign to raise funds to support the poor and underprivileged in society.
