Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday night presented a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV to Olubadan’s appointee, Olalekan Balogun, ahead of his coronation as the 42nd Olubadan from Ibadanland on Friday.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that Emmanuel Alawode, Chairman of the Southeast Ibadan Local Government, on behalf of the Governor, handed over the car key to Olubadan’s appointee at his residence in the Alarere area of Ibadan.
The new monarch’s younger brother Kola Balogun (PDP-Oyo South) received the car and a Jac Pick-Up vehicle on behalf of the Olubadan appointee.
NAN reports that the appointment of the new traditional ruler of Ibadanland was approved by Mr. Makinde on February 14.
Olubamiwo Adeosun, chairman of the Olubadan Coronation Committee, who is also secretary of the state government, said on Wednesday that the state government was ready to host a grand event, befitting the status of the highly revered oba.
NAN reports that all markets in Ibadan would be closed tomorrow as a sign of respect for the traditional institution of Ibadanland.
NAN’s findings also revealed that all market leaders in all markets in all 11 local government areas in Ibadanland had ordered markets closed.
However, they advised merchants to use the period to attend the coronation at Mapo Hall in the ancient city.
