The Chief of the Defense Staff, Lucky Irabor, has assured Nigerians that in 2022 peace will return to all the conflictive parts of the country.
Irabor, a general, gave security Saturday in Abuja at the 2022 International Military Sports Council Day Race for the armed forces and security agencies with the theme: “Running for World Peace”.
He said the world needed peace right now given the ongoing tension of monumental proportions between Russia and Ukraine and the various security challenges facing Nigeria.
According to him, peace is returning to several troubled parts of Nigeria and the security forces have been playing their part to correct the challenges.
Irabor said the exercise was to help personnel stay fit to enable them to continue the work of defending and protecting the country, adding that the job required their physical agility.
“Beyond that, it also helps you stay mentally sharp because the work you’re involved in requires your physical and mental well-being to be in tip-top shape.
“I am hopeful that for us in Nigeria, the peace we have yearned for all these years will be a turning point this year.

“We will never again have the level of insecurity that we have had in the past and this is a guarantee.
“I also thank Nigerians for the support they have provided to members of the military and other security agencies to address insecurity in our country.
“It’s not over yet. We ask for more support and I believe that Nigerians and of course all other friends of Nigeria will support the armed forces to install a peaceful environment”, stressed the defense chief.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the five kilometer walk and jog began at Aguyi Ironsi Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja, via Yakubu Gowon Barracks and ended in Aguyi Ironsi Cantonment.
The participants came from the armed forces, the police and paramilitary agencies.
