The Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) says it has increased the price of a bag of sachet water from N150 to N200 with immediate effect due to rising production costs.
This was announced by the zonal president of the Oye-Ekiti and Ikole-Ekiti association, Tale Oguntoyinbo, in a statement in Oye-Ekiti on Friday.
Mr. Oguntoyinbo said the price increase was necessary for producers to bring quality portable water to consumers’ doorsteps, which was not visible with the current cost of materials for water production.
“Water is important to everyone and water is life, the cost of maintenance and production costs keep increasing every day.
“In order to satisfy our many customers and ensure that they have clean drinking water on their table, the only option we have is to increase the price from the current N150 to N200.”
The president said that the decision to increase the price was not an easy one, but argued that the government had done nothing to help water producers alleviate the cost of regulating the material.
He said that most cities where nylon and other materials for water were produced with regular electricity were selling between N200 and N250 per bag.
Mr. Oguntoyinbo lamented that water producers, especially in the Oye-Ekiti and Ikole-Ekiti corridors of the state, could not improve the conditions of their factories or afford to buy a new vehicle due to lack of funds.
He, however, appealed to his many clients to be patient and reason with the association in view of the current economic crisis in Nigeria, praying for better times ahead. (YAYA)
