Before its national convention, the Congress of all progressives (APC) has zoned the position of National President to the North-Central geopolitical zone.
This comes just 24 hours after APC governors met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja regarding the zoning arrangement for party offices.
Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai said positions previously held by the north will now go to the south and vice versa.
In the zoning list seen by PREMIUM TIMES, the offices of the National President and the Deputy National Secretary were areas of the North Center, which includes the states of Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau).
Also zoned to the region are the Deputy National Legal Counsel and the Deputy National Secretary for Publicity.
According to the new zoning formula, the South-South zone will produce the party’s National Publicity Secretary, National Women’s Leader, Deputy National Treasurer and Deputy National Welfare Secretary.
This region comprises the states of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers.
The post of National Secretary, National Youth Leader and Deputy National Auditor was zoned to the south-west, comprising Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo states.
The positions of Deputy National President (for the South) and National Treasurer were zoned to the Southeast. Also zoned for the region are the Secretary for National Welfare and the Deputy National Secretary for Organization.
This region comprises the states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo.
To the northeast, the party zoned the National Vice President (North), National Auditor, Deputy National Financial Secretary, and Deputy National Leader of Women.
This region includes the states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.
The positions of National Legal Counsel, National Organizing Secretary, National Finance Secretary and Deputy National Youth Leader were zoned to the North West.
The region comprises the states of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara.
Each region will have a National Vice President, Zonal Secretary, Zonal Youth Leader, Zonal Organization Secretary, Zonal Women’s Leader and Special Zonal Leader (Persons with Disabilities – PCD).
The APC has approved March 26 for its National Convention and March 12 for Zonal Congresses.
