CDS meets with governors of oil-producing states and promises to improve security in the region

Chief of Defense Staff Lucky Irabor says renewed understanding and commitment from governors of oil-producing states will help address security challenges in the oil and gas sector.

Irabor said this at the end of the meeting with the governors of oil-producing states and the heads of security and intelligence agencies on Friday in Abuja.

He said that the outcome of the meeting with the governors was fruitful, adding that it would help the federal government make decisions that would lead to increased productivity in the oil and gas sector.

Irabor said the collaboration would provide greater security to the region where oil and gas exploration takes place.

“I think that in the future, Nigerians will see the change,” he said.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that Mr. Irabor convened a meeting involving the governors of the Niger Delta’s oil-producing states on Friday.

The governors of the states of Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers and Abia were present, those of the states of Edo, Imo and Ondo were represented by their alternates.

Also present were the heads of the security and intelligence agencies, the CDS, the Inspector General of Police, the General Directors of the Department of State Services, the National Intelligence Agency and the Chief of Defense Intelligence.

Others were the Commander General of Nigeria Civil Defense and Security Corps and a representative from the NNPC.
