Amid a resurgence of fuel queues in parts of the country, the House ad hoc committee on the volume of fuel consumed daily in the country began meeting.
It is to determine the volume of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as gasoline, consumed in Nigeria.
The committee’s chairman, Abdulkadir Abdullahi (APC-Kano), at the inaugural meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, said the committee would investigate alleged irregularities and disagreements related to fuel subsidy payments in the country.
Abdullahi said the committee is mandated to investigate and report back to the chamber within eight weeks.
He said the committee should not restrict its findings to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) records alone.
“We are expected to liaise with industry experts, transport workers and other interested parties to determine an independent finding for the benefit of Nigerians.
“I am personally delighted and grateful to the House for finding us worthy to be appointed to this committee and for selecting highly experienced, active and hard-working members of their caliber.

“Today’s meeting is very important and key as our first meeting to set the agenda for the committee.
“The Secretariat has prepared a draft work plan outlining possible programs and activities for our consideration, input and adoption.
“Therefore, I urge you all to consider the draft and provide your input, while I look forward to a very fruitful deliberation,” Mr. Abdullahi said.
