The Labor Party in Ekiti state on Saturday chose Olugbenga Daramola as its consensus candidate for the June 18 state gubernatorial election.
In a ceremony, held at his situation office at Dallimore Junction, Ado-Ekiti, the party’s president, Odunayo Okunade, presented Mr. Daramola with the party flag.
Mr. Okunade called on the people of Ekiti to vote for the party’s candidate in the June 18 gubernatorial election.
He declared that the party will provide an alternative to the alleged misrule of the PDP and APC.
He said, “Now is the time to take our future in our hands. We should say enough to the foreigners and free Ekiti from their hands, saying that it is time for those who live at home to rule their own state by themselves.
The party chairman noted that the time has come to resist any form of manipulation in the state.

“It is unfortunate that those who have taken over the affairs of the state since the return of democracy are not projecting the state well and to get the state back on track, the Labor Party has chosen a home to deliver Ekiti from the hands of foreigners. ”

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Daramola thanked the party members, drawn from Ekiti’s 16 local government areas, for their wise decision in running him as the party’s consensus candidate in the state.
“In all humility, no one will regret my candidacy as I pledge to serve in a spirit of fidelity and commitment to the common goal, always in accordance with the purpose and principle of the Labor Party constitution.
“I want to especially thank the national leadership of our great party under Mr. Julius Abure and the state executive under Mr. Odunayo Okunade for managing our party’s affairs despite various challenges,” he said.
Daramola, however, promised to hand over the state through the votes of the electorate to the Labor Party and take it to the next level.
The act was witnessed by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, militants from the Southwest, among others. (YAYA)
