The Kaduna State High Court on Monday sentenced a serial fraud convict who is still serving a jail term to a new term of seven years in prison.
The Commission of Economic and Financial Crimes The EFCC said in a statement that Gabriel Chimezie was jailed for seven years for each of the four counts of obtaining on false pretenses.
The sentences, which do not have the option of a fine, will be carried out simultaneously, according to the statement signed by EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren.
“Chimezie had been convicted twice by the Kaduna State High Court on similar charges and is currently serving a sentence at the Correctional Center,” the statement added.
The commission explained that Mr. Chimezie along with two others, Stephen Olaika and Francis Chukwu (deceased), had defrauded the complainant out of N1,475,000 under the pretense that they would award him a contract to supply the solar halogen indicator.
The convict and his accomplices were said to have been able to convince their victim with the false claim that they knew him from his time at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Serial scammer gets 28 years in prison
The Kano Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today, January 24, 2022, secured the conviction of a serial fraudster, Gabriel Chimezie, before Judge MTM Aliyu of the Kaduna State High Court for a count of four counts of obtaining by false pretense.
Chimezie had been convicted twice by the Kaduna State High Court on similar charges and is currently serving a sentence at the Correctional Center.
Chimezie along with two others, Stephen Olaika and Francis Chukwu (deceased), defrauded the complainant out of N1,475,000 on the pretext that they would be awarded a contract to supply the solar halogen indicator.
The convict and his accomplices managed to convince their victim with the false claim that they knew him from his time at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Following arraignment, the convict pleaded not guilty, thus setting the stage for a full trial.
During the trial, the prosecution’s lawyer, Musa Isah, called four witnesses and presented several documents that were admitted as evidence.
Convinced that the prosecution had proven their case, Judge Aliyu pleaded guilty and today sentenced Chimezie to seven years in prison for each of the four counts without the option of a fine.
The court ordered that the sentence be executed concurrently.
