The Chief of the Army General Staff (COAS), Faruk Yahaya, has reaffirmed his commitment to guarantee comprehensive medical treatment for wounded officers and soldiers of the armed forces.
Mr. Yahaya, a lieutenant general, made the promise while congratulating officers, soldiers and their families on the occasion of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration (AFRDC) in 2022.
This was contained in a goodwill message from Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Public Relations for the Army, on Sunday in Abuja.
Mr. Yahaya said that the AFRDC was in recognition of fallen heroes; brave men and women, who paid the ultimate price in defense of the peace, unity and prosperity of Nigeria and the world at large.
He said that many of the fallen heroes gave their lives during World War I, World War II, the Nigerian Civil War and other peace support operations around the world.
According to him, they are also involved in various internal security operations, including the ongoing fight against insurgency, terrorism, banditry and secessionism, among other threats to national security.
Mr. Yahaya said their sacrifices would not be forgotten and prayed for the rest of their souls, adding that AFRDC also presented the opportunity to honor veterans who are still alive.
COAS said that sadly, many of the veterans suffered varying degrees of injuries in the course of their service to the nation and humanity, emphasizing that caring for injured and maimed personnel will remain a cardinal focus under their command.

While thanking the troops for their sacrifices to achieve success across the spectrum of operations, Mr. Yahaya urged them not to give in, but to maintain and consolidate the feat achieved thus far.
COAS also called on Nigerian Army officers and soldiers to be loyal to the constituted authority and to ensure greater synergy with sister services and agencies in the pursuit of peace and security in Nigeria.
He further reaffirmed the immaculate loyalty of nigerian army to President Muhammadu Buhari and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. (YAYA)
