President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will sign an amended version of the Electoral Law Amendment Bill if the National Assembly becomes democratic and includes other modes of candidate selection.
This was stated by the president in an interview broadcast by television channels this Wednesday and monitored by PREMIUM HOURS.
Buhari’s comments come a few weeks after he rejected the bill citing the need for an alternative mode of primary elections.
In response to questions about the Electoral Bill, the president said that the National Assembly should be more democratic and give the people other primary election options.
“You cannot dictate to the people and tell them that they are making democracy,” he said.
The president had recently declined his assent to the Electoral Bill that was sent to him on November 19.
