The Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQA) on Friday it closed indefinitely two schools in Islamiyah for the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl and the pregnancy of another 12-year-old girl.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that one of the schools, Madrasatul Ulumul Deeniya wa Tahfizul Qur’an, located in Rigasa, was closed for an alleged rape of a six-year-old girl on the school premises.

The other Islamiyah school, not named but confirmed by NAN which is located in Tsohon Masallacin Juma’a in Kachia, Kachia local government, was also closed after a 50-year-old teacher allegedly impregnated a 12-year-old girl. at school.

KSSQA supervisor Idris Aliyu, who closed the school in Rigasa, explained that the six-year-old girl was raped inside the school premises and that the school authority allegedly covered it up and alleged ignorance of the incident.

Mr. Aliyu added that information before the Ministry of Education showed that the victim’s grandmother went to the school authority to complain, but was allegedly beaten by students and teachers.

He said Governor Nasir El-Rufai had ordered the Islamiyah to be closed indefinitely until the investigation is concluded and the culprit is presented.

She added that the school principal would be responsible for the act until everyone in the school was profiled and the girl identified the perpetrator.

“Those responsible for the violence against the grandmother, especially the director, will also be prosecuted.

“This is in line with the responsibility of the state government to protect the vulnerable population in the state,” he said.

However, the school’s principal, Kabir Abdullahi, denied the accusation, saying that “it is not a violation. What we deduce is that an unidentified boy injured the girl in her private part with a stick.

Abdullahi said the case was already being investigated by Rigasa Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Abubakar Bauranya.

For its part, the DPO confirmed that it had received the case and was equally aligned with the narrative of the Islamiyah school principal.

But the girl’s grandmother, Batul Gambo, insisted that her grandson was raped and had been confirmed by the Sexual Assault Referral Center, Yusuf Dantsoho Tudun Wada Memorial Hospital, Kaduna.

A medical report signed by A. Raji, a doctor, for NAN also confirmed Ms Gambo’s claim that the six-year-old girl was raped.

Mr. Raji’s report attributed the bleeding to “virginal hematomas of the labia minora, bilateral periureteral hematomas, hematoma of the clitoris and laceration of the hymen.”

About the rape and pregnancy of a 12-year-old girl in Kachia, Aliyu said she was six months pregnant.

He said that the school was also closed according to Mr. El-Rufai’s instructions, noting that the safety of the students could not be guaranteed.

He added that Human Services and Social Development Commissioner Hafsat Baba and Education Commissioner Halima Lawal would work closely with the police to investigate and ensure justice is served.

“In the meantime, the two schools will remain closed until the investigations are concluded and the culprit is prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.
