A man, identified as Yusuf Zubairu, allegedly killed his wife, Fatima Hardo, in the Sule-Tankarkar local government area of Jigawa State.
Police spokesman in the state, Lawan Adam, told reporters on Wednesday that the incident occurred on December 27 in the village of Baldi, where the couple lived.
The incident, which was reported by Bulama Muntari-Ubale, 65, occurred around 11:30 am between Mr. Zubairu, 26, and his wife Fatima, 23, following a misunderstanding between them.
“In the process of the fight, the said Yusuf Zubairu (also known as Sallau) used a stick and hit Fatima Hardo (now deceased) on the head to a stupor.
“When a Rabbi Lawan, from the same direction, came and separated them, the said Yusuf Zubairu, also inflicted serious injuries on him,” Adam said.
He said that upon receiving the report, a team of police rushed to the scene and took the victims to Gumel General Hospital, where a doctor confirmed their death.
The police spokesman said that while Rabi (the injured victim) was admitted and is currently responding to treatment at the hospital, the suspect was arrested and the exhibit recovered.
The investigation is ongoing, Adam added.
