Fortunately, in 2021 there were no reports of celebrity divorces in Nigeria. However, if there were any Nigerian celebrity couple whose marriage was controversial and on the brink of collapse, it would definitely be the Idibias.
The seemingly perfect marriage between music star Innocent 2Baba Idibia and Annie Macaulay, which was solemnized in 2012, was threatened in September.
Nigerians weren’t aware of the crisis brewing in the union until Annie opened the lid and all hell broke loose on Instagram.
Come in but
The problems began after Annie openly accused her superstar husband of sharing the same house with their baby, Pero Adeniyi.
He claimed that the singer spent nights under the same roof with Adeniyi, after taking their children to Disneyland.
Then an audio of Annie crying and threatening to “screw it up” went viral and further aggravated the matter.
Annie revealed it in a series of Instagram stories that were viewed by her more than seven million followers.
Ms Adeniyi, 43, who lives in the United States, is the daughter of a wealthy Nigerian businessman, Jide Adeniyi.
2baba had three children with her, while Sumbo Ajaba and Annie each had two children.
Before their infamous ‘public’ reconciliation at the Crescendo Lounge in Ikeja, Lagos, in November 2018, Pero and Annie were sworn enemies. 2Baba wept uncontrollably when the reconciliation occurred.
There has been a lot of drama between 2Baba, his wife, and Pero in recent years, from Pero’s sister calling Annie on Instagram to photos of 2baba and Pero kissing at a club, which have surfaced online.
But Adeniyi
Their cold relationship came to the fore when photos of 2baba allegedly kissing Adeniyi at the singer’s nightclub in 2015 broke the internet.
The 9-year-old union, for the first time in a long time, witnessed a full-blown crisis, when Annie and Pero Adeniyi got into a disorderly dispute on Instagram.
In fact, it was messy.
Adeniyi is no stranger to the Idibias.
In fact, it is believed to have been an integral part of the legendary singer’s career since 2005.
Brother-in-law problems
While dealing with the aftermath of her Instagram outburst, Annie would later have to deal with the drama of her brother-in-law, Charles Idibia, when he got into it.

The 37-year-old actress would later say she was mistreated by her husband’s family.
In accusing his brother’s wife of drug addiction, Charles pointed out that she must have taken the wrong drugs from her ‘dealer’ in order to have gone online to speak of her husband in such a way.
Endorsement of ‘our first wife’
As Annie recovered from her brother-in-law’s backlash, a viral video would appear on the internet in October.
In the video, Pero was seen with two women, who were identified as 2baba’s cousins, calling her and referring to her as ‘our first wife’.
One of the women also addressed Pero as the ‘only first wife’ that 2baba has, adding that ‘no one or any other wife will take that position away from him in his life.’

Around that time, a video of Jide Adeniyi, Pero’s father, interview with Asabe Afrika TV in 2019, in which he claimed that 2baba was married to his daughter but married another woman (Annie) despite the fact that she gave him His first three children, resurfaced online.

Making the records clear
But who is believed to be a thorn in Annie’s flesh made things clear in an interview with popular blogger Stella Dimoko-Korkus.
It was the first time that the reserved entrepreneur spoke in public about the father of her children.
This was in October 2021.
When asked about 2baba’s infamous trip to America and if she was in the photo, she said, “I heard you came to America in August, but we didn’t see it.” It is not every time he comes to the United States that we see. His brother lives there, so he may have gone there to stay with him. “
But, who was on vacation in Nigeria at the time, also added that she came to the country with her boyfriend and was shocked by the rumors circulating on social media.
He also stated that he had stayed out of 2baba’s marriage to avoid drama even to the detriment of the three children he had as a music star.
But he also took to his Instagram stories to warn Annie. He described it as a ‘lair’ to drag in and claimed that the truth would be clearly visible to all.
Pero’s N500m lawsuit
But then he would file what was described as the mother of all lawsuits in November.
It took legal action against Annie for what was described as a “malicious and defamatory online post made in September.”
But she served Annie with a notice of lawsuit written on her behalf by her attorneys, Okonjo Odiawa & Ebi, demanding a retraction and N500 million in damages.

In the lawsuit notice dated November 10, Pero’s attorneys referenced Annie’s outburst on Instagram and the audiotape that went viral weeks ago.
In the viral audiotape, Annie alleged that her husband, 2Baba, “packed his bags and came to the United States to see her (Pero) and her other children.”
Peace at last?
2baba would then plead with the public to respect her family’s privacy and stop meddling in her marriage crisis for the sake of her children.
The singer, in an Instagram post, also admitted the mistakes of his family.

He noted that no one was perfect and admitted that taking his family’s problems to social media was wrong.
This is the first time the singer has publicly commented on the family feud and infidelity scandal that began in September.
The 45-year-old first broke his silence when he released a new single, titled ‘Searching’, which features the legendary Bongus Ikwue.
Annie too
On the occasion of her 37th birthday, Annie wrote her husband an emotional and heartfelt apology for the marital problems of the past few months.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Nkoyo’s role-playing performer said she was sorry “putting it there” and told him that “that’s not the woman you married.”
He also admitted that his experiences in recent months have been traumatic, revealing that he contemplated suicide in the heat of the bitter consequences.
Her post read in part: “I’m so sorry to have put our families there the way I did (I’m still your little one). To my beautiful mothers, my amazing mother, and my beautiful mother-in-law, I am so sorry to have disappointed you both. “
She, however, did not openly apologize to Pero, but both parties have taken over all forms of ‘fighting’ on Instagram, at least, for now.
