The family of Timothy Adegoke, a master’s student at the Obafemi Awolowo University, and young people in their hometown of Ikolaba, Ibarapa East local government area of Oyo state, on Monday held a peaceful protest to demand justice for the murdered student.
Mr. Adegoke was reportedly killed at the Hillton Hotel in Ile-Ife, Osun State, belonging to one Adedoyin Abdulrahman.
Adegoke had traveled to Ile-Ife to write an exam. He stayed at the hotel on 5 November, but his body was found days later, apparently exhumed next to the hotel.
Osun State Police had confirmed the arrest of Mr. Abdulrahman and five other suspects in connection with the murder.
On Monday, young people from Ibarapa held a peaceful protest demanding the prosecution of those responsible for the murder of their relatives.
The older brother of the deceased, Olugbade Adegoke, told PREMIUM TIMES that the family wants a “thorough investigation of the case, as well as the immediate closure of the hotel.”
“We demand justice. All the young people of Ikolaba demand justice. Glad the investigation was done. I went to Abuja three days ago and they told me to go prepare for court, that Adedoyin would be charged, ”Adegoke said.

Ibrahim Adams, who spoke on behalf of the youth, noted that the protest would gradually move from Oyo state to all other southwestern states if justice is not done about it.
“Our brother was murdered and the only thing we ask for is justice, are we asking too much? For now we still have faith in the handling of the IGP and we know that justice will be done.
“We won’t mind taking this protest to all other parts of the Southwest if we notice any form of foul play on this very issue.”
