President Muhammadu Buhari has denied backing either faction of the Congress of All Progressives (APC) in the state of Kano.
Buhari stated this in a statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Saturday.
Shehu said his statement was “to counter a public statement by one of the factions of the Congress of All Progressives in Kano state that they have received the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
“This is blatantly false. This cannot happen when matters are awaiting a court decision.
“To be clear on this, President Buhari has not endorsed any faction.
“His support is for the Congress of All Progressives as a party, united and strong, and not from any faction,” Shehu said.
The APC in Kano is divided into two factions, one loyal to the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the other to the senator, Ibrahim Shekarau.
