However, his death along the Potiskum / Fika highway in Yobe State in a car accident has disturbed members of the corps, especially those with whom they exchanged courtesies prior to his departure.
Shocked by the news of his passing, some members of the corps told Newslodge how the deceased were full of life before leaving for Taraba.
A member of the corps, who claimed to have hugged the deceased and said goodbye to them, said the news of their deaths in an accident was something many of them still find hard to believe.
A member of the female body said that the loss is not only a loss for their families but for the entire NYSC community.
Wondering why death came when they were supposed to be reaping rewards for their hard work, he asked the NYSC to demotalize the deceased members of the corps.
“One day before (Jalingo) left here, we were all together, making jokes. So it was very difficult for some of us to believe that our lovely colleagues are no longer alive, ”said another member of the female body.
Another corps member, unable to hold back tears, said it would be unfair if at the end of the day, the family members left behind were abandoned by the leadership of the NYSC and the Federal Government.
NYSC Taraba State Coordinator Anthony Nzoka told Newslodge by phone that the deceased would be moving from Taraba to Yobe State.
He confirmed that the accident, which caused his premature death, occurred in Fika, and stressed that both the State of Taraba and the Federal Government have sympathized with the families of the deceased.
He said: “There was an accident in Fika that caused the death of four members of our body who were relocating. And I can tell you that the Taraba state government and the federal government have reached out to their families. ”
Some staff members of the NYSC state branch confirmed that the state has sympathized with the families, but could not determine whether the government has deemed it appropriate to compensate them.
A senior government official also confirmed that letters of condolence were sent to the families, but he was not sure whether the government had reached out to the families with any assistance.
