Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun approved a 200 percent increase in judges’ assignments in the state.
Abiodun revealed this in Abeokuta when he inaugurated five new judges in the state judiciary.
The five judges are Judges Adewole Adeyemi and Safrat Bello of the State Superior Court and Judges Philip Akinsinde, Olukemi Osisanya and Idowu Odugbesan of the State Customary Court of Appeal.
It also approved a 100% increase in rent benefits for judges.
Abiodun also said that a memorandum would be sent to the State Executive Council to provide additional allocations for all judges to improve their performance.
“We will continue to appreciate the enormous work of our Judges, we do not want them to compromise, so we will always look out for their well-being.
“The Judicial Power is the last bastion of hope of the common man, it is the balance between the Legislative and the Executive.
“The judges are also the central wheels that represent civilized societies,” he pointed out.
Abiodun said that the state is blessed with men and women of exceptional qualities whose contribution to the socioeconomic development of the state and the nation is not in doubt.
He added that the appointment of the five new judges was a unique milestone in the history of the State, as it was done to preserve the existing legacies left by the founding fathers of the State.
The governor noted that the hallmark of any administration is the availability of high-quality men and women, and expressed his hope that the culture and tradition of integrity, honesty and hard work will be enhanced by the appointment of judges.
Abiodun assured that his administration will continue to implement policies and programs that will reposition the judiciary for optimal performance, calling for mutual respect between the three arms of the government.
He called on people who have not yet been vaccinated to do so, while those who had received the two jabs should receive the booster dose, as the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is spreading at an alarming rate.
Responding on behalf of other judges, Judge Adeyemi thanked the governor for finding them worthy of the office and said he would ensure that the state judiciary remains the best in the country.
