The chairman of the House Customs and Excise Committee, Leke Abejide, has said that four people from each of the 774 local government areas would be recruited for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) during ongoing recruitment.
Abejide, who revealed this during a press conference on Friday in Abuja, said Nigerians had been calling him about the exercise.
He said the exercise was a sequel to openings in some cadres at NCS, adding that it was not a blanket recruitment.
The legislator said the NCS would not recruit beyond the number given.
“In the last exercise, I received a lot of threats from Nigerians and some of them even threatened to take NCS to court,” he said.

According to him, each area of local government is entitled to four candidates to guarantee justice and equality in all areas of local government.
Abejide lamented the level of pressure exerted on members of the Chamber to press for spaces on their behalf, and stressed that the amount of pressure required for the press conference to correct some erroneous insinuations.
He urged Nigerians, especially those interested in applying for jobs at NCS, to find out what cadres exist in their LGAs.
He said the House was working on a bill to reform NCS, adding that he would repeal and re-enact the law to allow him to recruit en masse.
According to him, the NCS should have 30,000 employees, but it currently has about 15,000, adding that the number was grossly inadequate.
“Once the bill is ready and if it becomes law, many of our young people will be recruited,” he said.
