FEC Approves Salary Increase for Nigerian Police Personnel

The Nigerian government has approved new appropriations for the police that would raise the net pay of police personnel by at least 20 percent, an official said.

Police affairs minister Maigari Dingyadi told reporters that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved a “peculiar subsidy” for the police to take off from January 2022.

The allowance will increase the salary that police personnel take home by 20 percent of their current income, Dingyadi said.

He said the pay increase was part of the Muhammadu Buhari administration’s efforts to meet the demands of #EndSARS protesters.

The FEC meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Village, Abuja, on Wednesday, also approved the revision of the police duty tour allowance to 6 per cent and the release of 1.2 billion naira for the payment of benefits. not insured.

The FEC also approved the sum of 1,200 million naira for the payment of outstanding appropriations.

The minister said that the FEC also approved a tax exemption for junior police personnel that will take effect from October 2021.
