The Congress of all progressives (APC) says the newly inaugurated leadership of the opposition Popular Democratic Party (PDP) has shown early signs that it is no different from its immediate past and fired leadership.
James Akpanudoedehe, national secretary, APC caretaker and planning committee for the extraordinary convention, said this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.
Members of the new NWC members were inducted on Friday.
Mr. Akpanudoedehe explained that the appearance could be seen in the statements and the leadership of the new leadership of the PDP which, according to him, does not reflect the hope of a refocused opposition party.
He pointed out that clearly, the PDP’s sole intention was to seize power by any means, ignoring the need for genuine restitution.
He added that the new PDP leadership must show Nigerians that it is willing and ready to dismiss their penchant for impunity.
This, he said, should be done by submitting to the new democratic environment entrenched by the APC government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, where votes counted in all electoral contests.
Akpanudoedehe said this was the task before the Iyorchia Ayu-led PDP, and not the empty and tired rhetoric of the 2023 delivery notes.
“The sit-down syndrome spearheaded by the unfortunate agenda of the PDP’s third term has been dismissed as an undemocratic model.
“President Buhari has assured Nigerians and the international community free and fair elections in 2023, even as he promised a peaceful transfer of power.
“That is the stuff of true progressives and statesmen,” said the APC scribe.
He added that the APC administration’s priority had been cleaning up the national rot left by the PDP administration for 16 years.
He noted that despite the obvious challenges along the way, the Buhari government was successfully clearing the rot created by the PDP in the period and returning the country to its deserved place.
He said that the Buhari administration had guaranteed continued electoral reforms and non-interference in the functions of institutional reforms.
He explained that this had guaranteed the financial autonomy of local government councils, the financial autonomy of state legislatures and the judiciary, and the long-delayed passage of the Petroleum Industry Law, among others.
Others, he said, are the infrastructure revolution in road, rail and air transport, the implementation of social investment programs and the empowerment of millions of poor Nigerians.

According to him, the enormously successful economic diversification campaign of the government of President Buhari has unleashed the creative energies of citizens and boosted agricultural production.
“Additionally, this government’s diversification policies have led to massive growth in the non-oil sector, fueling Nigeria’s strongest growth in the past seven years.
“Record investments in the military and other security services have equipped, raised their morale, and enabled them to effectively secure our lives and property.
“The old system where impunity and corruption were pervasive is no longer the norm,” Akpanudoedehe said as well.
He thanked Nigerians for their continued support of the APC and for rejecting the PDP.
