The Vice Chancellor of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University of Ndufu Alike in Ebonyi State, Professor Sunday Oge Elom said on Monday that the intake of hard drugs, especially Mkpurimmiri, is prohibited on the varsity team and threatened to expel any student who could be summoned.
It also swore that any University staff found guilty of such acts would be fired by management.
Professor Elom revealed this while briefing reporters in Abakaliki, ahead of the University’s upcoming sixth convocation ceremony, scheduled for next week on Tuesday.
He expressed concern about growing insecurity in the nation and said his administration on the varsity team has sacrificed a lot to protect the lives of students from attacks by bullies.
The vice-chancellor, however, said that he constitutes a security committee to adequately protect the lives of students, as well as prevent thugs from destroying the University facilities.
He said that 900 graduates will be calling from the institution.
“In this sixth convocation ceremony, we will be producing 900 graduates in 10 faculties with the following grade classifications; First class = 20, Second high class = 306, Second low class = 494, Third class 79 and Pass = 1 ”, he affirmed.
Professor Elom revealed that Emeritus Professor Onyechi Obidoa will give the convening lecture while former Renaissance University Vice Chancellor Ugbawka, Enugu State Professor Charles Chike Onochie will be the chair.
He further stated that: “We have already started working to take the university to greater heights. Thus, in the last 10 months of my administration, we have been able to set up a university-level security committee made up of staff, students, representatives of the host community and members of the security agencies, ”he added.
