The Zamfara state chapter of the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) has held its congress in the 147 districts of the state.

Addressing reporters shortly after the district congress in Gusau, the state capital, the party’s acting chairman, Colonel Bala Mande (rtd), said members adopted the consensus method, saying there was no agitation by part of the members.

“The congress was held in a very peaceful way because there were enough security agents throughout the state,” he added.

According to the party’s state chairman, there was nothing like a parallel congress, noting that the party’s headquarters electoral committee praised party members for behaving in an orderly manner.

“I want to take this opportunity to tell the whole world that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the security agencies were adequately represented.”

When asked to comment on the possibilities of the PPD to form a government in the state in 2023, the former military governor said that the leadership of the congress indicated that the party is on the ground in the state of Zamfara.

Colonel Mande refuted the claim that the ruling APC in the state has been trying to silence the PDP in the state, saying that the ruling APC has no constitutional power to stop the PDP in the state.

“That was disinformation and empty propaganda that was supposed to be thrown into another basket.”

He urged the party’s many supporters to stand firm, saying that just because APC stole their mandate does not mean they will not claim it again.
