A 34-year-old man, Godwin Iroro, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police command for desecrating his friend’s 10-year-old daughter.
The suspect, who was arrested on November 25, 2021, blamed the devil for his action.
Iroro was arrested after the victim’s father, Chukwudi Chime, filed a complaint at the Police Station, who noticed unusual and uncomfortable movements of his daughter.
The Command’s spokesperson in the state, Adekunle Ajisebutu, in a statement confirmed that the suspect confessed to the crime but blamed the devil.
Part of the statement read: “The girl (victim), when questioned, revealed that her father’s friend, a father of four who also lives in the same complex at 5 Iyalode Street, Ajegunle, Lagos, had carnal knowledge of her when father was away from home.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that both men are separated from their wives. While the victim lives with her father at the above address.
“The suspect confessed to the crime but blamed the devil. He also confessed to having sexually abused the girl only twice before the evil was discovered. “
Police Commissioner CP Hakeem Odumosu ordered the suspect to be transferred to the Gender Unit of the Police Command for a discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.
“The PC warns that men so licentious that they would not control their restless virility would desist from such despicable acts or face serious consequences,” the statement read.
