Former Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith has joined Norwich City on a two and half year deal following the sacking of Daniel Farke about a week ago.

Frank Lampard was the front runner for the Norwich job but the Chelsea legend pulled out of the race, leaving Dean Smith as clear favorite.

Norwich lie at the base of the premier league table with just five points in eleven games and recorded their first win on the same day Daniel Farke was shown the exit door, it is left to be seen what the terms of the appoint is for the former Villa boss.

Craig Shakespeare will assist Smith, having worked with him at Villa. Smith’s first test will be against Southampton next weekend at Carrow Road, a game of huge significance for a club battling identity crisis and confidence.

“It has been a whirlwind seven days but I’m really pleased to be back and working for Norwich City in the Premier League,”

“Clearly, there has been some wonderful work that has gone into this football club over last four and a half years. It is now the job of myself and Craig to continue and improve on that work with the ultimate aim of surviving in the Premier League.”

“Norwich City is a big club, with a massive hardcore of supporters who are fully understanding in what it means to be part of the club and its community.” Dean Smith said after his appointment.
