Johnson Kokumo, deputy inspector general of police in charge of Osun’s gubernatorial election, said on Thursday that police would leave no stone unturned to ensure that those involved in vote buying and selling were held accountable.
Mr. Kokumo spoke at the end of the police’s interactive session with “Accredited Election Observer Groups”, NGOs and the media.
“We will stop at nothing to catch them wherever they are. We will arrest them and process them through the court,” she said.
“The buying and selling of votes is an electoral crime.”
He called on the public to give the police credible information leading to the arrest of the culprits, saying the appeal was necessary as the vote-buying and selling transactions were carried out in secret.

Kokumo said there would be no vehicle or human movements during the state election period on Saturday.
The DIG said that although political actors knew that there were always restrictions on movement during elections, it was pertinent to repeat it and announce it so that the general public would know that it had been established.
He said that human and vehicular movements would be restricted from 12 p.m. on Saturday to 6:00 p.m. on the same day (Election Day), but that essential workers and accredited election observers and the media could operate. .
Speaking earlier about the preparation of security agencies for the elections, Mr. Kokumo said that the security agencies of the ‘inter-agency advisory committee on election security’ have met several times and worked out security arrangements for the elections.
“I want to assure locals and strangers that the police have the understanding, cooperation and collaboration of other security services.
“Specific duties were put in place for security agencies and the important thing is that we achieve great success at the polls.”
He said adequate security arrangements and deployments had been made for the state’s three senatorial districts, all 332 precincts and 3,763 voting units.
“In the course of our deployment, we have officers on the ground, air deployment with helicopters, and we also deploy Marine Police to the waterways,” he said.
