The footballer from Nigeria was born on October 28th, 1984 in the city of Lagos in Nigeria. He was brought up along with his two brothers, Oladipupo and John Ronan, who both played football professionally. His older brother, Oladipupo, was a professional soccer player who competed for three different clubs: Reggiana (an Italian club), Partizan (a Serbian club), and Innsbrucker AC (an Austrian club). Because of his cardiac difficulties, he decided to retire in the year 2009. On August 8, 2011, he passed away in Lagos after what is believed to have been a heart attack.

Career

Young Obafemi launched his professional career in 1999 after being well-known on the pitch for his speed, strength, and other qualities he possessed. The scout for the football team, Churchill Oliseh, brought the player to the attention of F.C. Ebedei, which is a local football club. In 2001, he moved his career to Europe by signing with Inter Milan for a transfer fee of 750,000 Euros. He was the driving force behind the team’s success in a number of competitions, and in 2005, he signed a deal that guaranteed him a salary of 2.5 million Euros per year through 2010.

While he was still playing for Inter Milan, he set a record by being the only adolescent ever to score in all three consecutive Champion League seasons. Martins joined Levante on a free transfer in September 2012 and immediately signed a contract extending his stay there for another two years. He played for the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer from 2013 until 2015, during which time he scored forty goals in seventy-two matches for the team. Martins was signed by Shanghai Shenhua on February 18, 2016, to play for the team in the Chinese Super League. After having his contract with Shanghai Shenhua terminated in September 2020, Martins signed a one-year deal to play for Wuhan Zall, a club that competes in the Chinese Super League.
