APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu has urged the newly appointed Interim Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, to bring the competence and integrity that characterized his career to the top judicial post.
Tinubu gave the advice in a congratulatory message from his spokesman, Tunde Rahman, in Abuja on Tuesday.
The former Lagos State Governor, who is currently out of the country, while congratulating Mr. Ariwoola, also wished former CJN Tanko Muhammad a speedy recovery.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) recalls that the former CJN resigned on Monday for health reasons.
Mr. Tinubu said: “I congratulate Justice Olukayode Ariwoola on his promotion to the highest judicial post with his appointment as Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.
“To say that this appointment is well deserved is to state the obvious, as Judge Ariwoola has given his all to the law and the judiciary.
Mr. Ariwoola has held important positions over the years during which he demonstrated excellence.
“His judicial career spanning more than four decades has been characterized by competence, integrity, and deep understanding and interpretation of the law without fear or favor,” he said.

Mr. Tinubu therefore expressed optimism and confidence that Mr. Ariwoola will bring to the appointment the competence and integrity that have been hallmarks of his judicial career and will continue to uphold the principles of the law with courage and impartiality.
He wished him further wisdom and God’s guidance as he prayed for a speedy recovery for the former CJN.
“I thank Justice Muhammad for his services to Nigeria and the judiciary and wish him a memorable retirement.”
NAN reports that Mr. Ariwoola was called to the bar in July 1981 and rose to the high court as a Supreme Court justice in 2011.
