An advocacy group has acquired the N100 million APC Presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan.
A source in the Senate President’s Office said the forms were handed over to him by the group on Monday at the International Conference Center (ICC), Abuja.
The group said it would submit the forms to Mr. Lawam at his private home in Abuja.
PREMIUM TIMES had reported that Mr. Lawan could join the presidential race on the platform of the ruling party.
Mr. Lawan, a native of Yobe State, is the APC’s first major presidential candidate from the northeast region.
He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1999, after which he moved to the Senate.
Lawan was elected President of the Senate in 2019.
There are currently more than 23 people who have expressed interest in the presidential race on the APC platform.
Some of the top contenders are Vice President Yemi Osin Bajo; the former governor of the state of Lagos, Bola Tinubu; Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi; Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State; a former President of the Senate, Ken Nnamani and the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba.
the Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige; the former governor of Imo, Rochas Okorocha; Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and former Abia Governor and sitting Senator Orji Kalu are also in the running.
Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River; former Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State; the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio; Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State are also candidates for the APC presidential bid.
The ruling party will hold its presidential primary elections later this month.
