There was chaos on Lagos Island on Saturday when police officers Drug Law Enforcement Agency of Nigeria (NDLEA) raided some areas including Patey, Gambari, Osho and surrounding areas to arrest a suspected drug dealer and his accomplices on Saturday.
In video footage shared online, shots were heard as shopkeepers abandoned their wares.
In the video, a male voice was heard saying “don’t run, wait for them, wait for them, don’t run, you can’t do anything, crazy people, chase them…”
In another video, some men pushed a fair-skinned man who appeared to be “dead” in a wheelbarrow.
Femi Babafemi, the spokesman for the NDLEA, said in a statement that his officers were attacked while trying to arrest a suspected drug lord on Lagos Island.
Another statement released by Babafemi hours later said a “major drug kingpin operating the notorious Patey Lagos Island drug haven,” Sherifat Lawal, was arrested along with six other suspects with nearly 6,000 kilograms of drugs.

The agency “recovered 5,862 kilograms of a variety of illicit drugs, including Loud and Codeine in the operation.”
“Following credible intelligence and follow-up surveillance on illicit drug trafficking in Osho, Gambari and Beecroft streets, Patey area of Lagos Island, counter-narcotics officers raided the drug lord’s base on Gambari street, where she and six of her accomplices were arrested at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 26,” the statement said.
Babafemi said “mobilized thugs” attacked agency agents with rocks, bottles and guns to prevent the arrest of other capos marked for arrest, as well as to take already caught suspects and drug displays, but were repelled. .
Other suspects arrested are Ahmed Yisau; Solomon Alape, Olayemi Akinola, Salami Qudus, Bakare Rafiu, Rose Samson, Yusuf Rofiat, and Chukwudi Egon.
