Police arrest five suspected drug traffickers

the Nigerian Police ForceEkiti Command said on Saturday it had arrested five suspected cultists and drug lords following a tip-off in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Sunday Abutu, the spokesman for the command, made this known in a statement in Ado-Ekiti.

Abutu said that the command, on February 18 at around 2:30 pm, received a credible tip that a group of suspected cultists were seen at a hotel located on Ikere Road in Ado-Ekiti.

He said the command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS), upon receipt of the intelligence report, went into action and the suspects (names withheld) were found in one of the hotel rooms.

Abutu said the suspects were found with some incriminating items and were immediately arrested.

“Upon searching the room, the following items were found and recovered, three packages of suspected Arizona hemp, 50 packages of suspected cocaine, 15 packages of suspected loud hemp.

“Others are 20 bundles of weed suspected to be indian hemp, 10 gas lighters, a sharp knife and a cash of N76,900,” he said.

The command spokesman said the suspects, during interrogation, confessed to being illicit drug dealers.

Mr. Abutu said that the State Police Commissioner, Tunde Mobayo, however, thanked members of the public for their cooperation and support in providing timely and useful information that led to the arrest of the suspects and other suspected criminal elements.

He said that the police chief also assured the public that the command, under his supervision, would not give up its efforts to stop the activities of criminals in the state. (YAYA)
