APC warns PDP not to bid for governor of Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned the main opposition party in the state, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP)desist from offering his candidacy for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The ruling party in a statement on Friday described as derisory the DPP’s attempt to offer its “worthless electoral tickets to all passers-by.

The statement added that the platform that initially elected Governor Sanwo-Olu, after having recognized his performance in various sectors in his first term, is still available to run again for another term.

“His skillful handling of the covid-19 pandemic and successful execution of the comprehensive TEMAS agenda have endeared him to the people of Lagos as a compassionate, committed and fit leader for such a time as this,” APC said at the statement from its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo.

“He has undoubtedly redirected our state onto the path of progress and restored our place of honor as the leading light in the federation.

“As the ruling party, we want to advise the state governor to stay focused and undistracted on the onerous task of finishing strong and upholding his part of the social contract with the good people of Lagos State.”

APC’s statement came in response to a comment by former PDP Lagos spokesman Gani Taofik that the party is ready to receive Mr. Sanwo-Olu if you decide to defect from the APC.

The Lagos APC warned the PDP to desist from its “old tactics of perennial attempts to destabilize the ruling party by deliberately promoting falsehood, blackmail and weapon twisting strategies for political advantage”.

“While we sympathize with the Lagos State PDP for their several years of misfortunes and political misadventures, good wisdom dictates that they put up their house to give themselves a semblance of relevance.

“It is unfortunate that the PDP could only think of fishing from the capable talent pool in the APC while looking for people to offer their worthless election tickets.

“This underlines the lack of attraction in the PPD and the admission of its usual waterloo in the next elections.

“Governor Babajide SANWO-OLU hereby unequivocally rejects this Greek gift and declares that APC remains his preferred party to make his next political move, which will be made known in due course to all Lagosians.”

‘Personal opinion’

When contacted by PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Taofik said that his comment about the governor was his personal opinion and not his party’s position.

“I spoke as a party chief and not as a spokesperson, I no longer hold that position,” he said.

“Anyone is free to apply for any party ticket and I know they will still screw it (Sanwo-Olu) like they did Ambode.”
