A former Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has declared his intention to run for president in 2023 on the Senate ticket. Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr. Saraki revealed this through his Facebook post on Wednesday, in reaction to his social media followers who have been asking him to make his position known.
In his four-paragraph declaration statement, the former Kwara state lawmaker and two-term governor said he has a “strong record of delivery and experience making tough decisions.”
“As we prepare for the journey ahead, I hope we can all come together to get our ticket to our big game, the PDP, and build a nation that works for all of us.
“Join me in making our communities safer and providing real opportunities for you and your family. I have a strong track record of delivery and experience making tough decisions.
“Let’s build a new Nigeria that works for ALL! #GrowNigeria,” Saraki said.
The former Senate president’s statement comes after that of Ovation magazine editor Dele Momodu, former Senate president Pius Anyim, and Sam Ohuabunwa, all members of the PDP.
Saraki came third in his bid for the 2019 PDP presidential bid. He lost to Atiku Abubakar who got the ticket to the party.
There are indications that Mr. Atiku Abubakar will also run for president again on the PDP platform.
If he does, he will fight again during the primaries with Saraki and others.
