He recommended that they not use their service stations to extort money from motorists and other travelers.
Oyediran issued the warning Sunday when he made an unscheduled visit to a section of the Benin-Ore Expressway to monitor the activities of police personnel posted at approved paces on the road.
According to him, the development is the result of the outcry of citizens for the traffic congestion they find on the highway caused by the scandalous number of road blocks, unnecessary delays of travelers and pedestrians in transit.
“All police officers posted on duty on the roads must be alert and not use their service posts as a means of extortion,” warned Oyediran.
He ordered police personnel to scare off criminals, respond promptly to emergencies, facilitate the movement of vehicles and protect all road users along the Benin-Ore axis.
The commissioner, who ensured the free passage of vehicles on the highway during his visit, assured residents of the state of Ondo and other road users adequate security at all times.
