A non-governmental organization (NGO), First British Charity Home Foundation, fed at least 100 suspects and police officers in Lagos on Monday to celebrate the Christmas season.
Foundation owner Evans Uchendu, who led his team to various police formations, said the gesture was aimed at putting smiles on people’s faces.
“We visited the Ijesha and Itire police stations, together with the State Criminal Investigation Department, near Alagbon, in Ikoyi.
“We provide good water, soft drinks and food to more than 100 police officers and suspects in custody.
“We donated an automatic blood pressure monitor and emzol paracetamol, we prayed with the officials and we encouraged them for their good works to secure lives and property.
“We also pray for the suspects and encourage them to stay away from illegality,” he said.
He also said that part of the Foundation’s vision is to reach out to the village elders, especially those who do not have children to care for them.
“By the grace of God, the vision of this Foundation is to feed all the suspects in the police cell and inmates in prison custody starting from Lagos.
“This is because I know from my working relationship with the police that almost all of them, some victims of the circumstances, are being fed by their Investigating Police Officers, using their meager salaries.
“We are not doing this because we have enough, but looking at the current economic reality, you will appreciate what I am talking about,” he said.
