The roads commissioned are Aderemi Akeju Street with Stilt Bridge, Okun Street, Femi Kufo Street, Brown Street, Adegbenro, Ganiyat Dawodu, Yetunde Brown, Anipole and Sosanya streets.
Before reconstruction, the roads were in a deplorable state, leading to heavy traffic. A community leader, Ramon Tajudeen, recalled how motorists found it difficult to navigate the roads, especially during the rainy season. He praised the governor for coming to his aid and solving the traffic jams.
Another resident, Biriki Yewande, said the provision of drains on Yetunde Brown Street will solve perennial flooding in the area.
Additionally, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing the Kosofe Federal Constituency, Hon. Oluwarotimi Agunsoye, thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for remembering the area and said he would address the environmental and infrastructure challenges facing the community, including floods.
He asked the governor to extend the gesture to Taiwo Street. Speaking, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted the strategic importance of Soluyi as a fast-growing community in need of an infrastructure upgrade.
This, he said, informed his administration to prioritize the completion of the road network, with a total length of 2,840km, including a bridge, which will serve a population of more than 300,000 people, within the Soluyi-Araromi-Ifako- Gbagada. communities.
The newly completed highway network, he said, will serve as an alternate route, a detour, for motorists within the Soluyi community to the third continental bridge (TMB) and the Apapa-Oworonsoki highway through the third axial underpass.
In addition to all the benefits, the governor said, it will improve transportation connectivity, standard of living, and environmental mitigation.
He said: “I am pleased to note that in the implementation of these projects, jobs were created for about 380 people: engineers, supervisors and various cadres of craftsmen.
“With the completion of these projects, our administration has once again demonstrated the highest priority we place on the well-being and well-being of the people of Lagos, in line with our Great Lakes Vision, and the Traffic and Transportation Management Pillar. of our TOPICS Governing Agenda.
“The increasing number of people living in Lagos, and the consequent increase in vehicle traffic volumes and axle loads are partly responsible for the problems we face regarding road infrastructure in the state.
“We can and will take some of the pressure off our roads using our waterways and rail technology. That is why we are moving forward with determination in the Lagos light rail project, as well as in the construction of docks and the deployment of ships and ferries throughout the state ”.
The governor entrusted the area’s Community Development Associations (CDAs) to assume ownership and responsibility for the prudent use of these projects / roads.
“You have to take care of them with devotion and dedication, and keep them clean, and the drainage free of debris, at all times,” he added.
Previously, the Special Advisor for Works and Infrastructure, Eng. Aramide Adeyoye said that the nine roads and the bridge have helped improve connectivity while providing multiple detour passes and also reducing traffic jams.
