The Electoral Petitions Tribunal of the National Assembly, meeting in Enugu, on Tuesday dismissed Sunday Umeha from the Labor Party (LP), representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency of Enugu State.

The panel, headed by Justice AM Abubakar, declared Festus Uzor of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the February 25 elections.

Abubakar, while ruling on the petition filed by Uzor, stated that Umeha did not properly resign from the PDP before picking up the LP candidacy.

The panel also held that even the purported resignation letter submitted by Umeha was signed by someone who was no longer the PDP leader.

He subsequently ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue a new certificate of return to Mr. Uzor as the duly elected representative of the constituency.
