Gunmen killed a woman in the early hours of Sunday in the Mile 6 area of Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
The gunmen also kidnapped the wife and daughter of a police officer.
This is one of several cases of kidnapping in Jalingo, the state capital, in a span of two weeks.
On penultimate Friday, gunmen kidnapped more than 14 people in Mayo Dassa, another Jalingo suburb, but they have since been released unharmed.
The incident on Sunday was confirmed by the state police command spokesperson, Usman Abdullahi.
He said a serving policeman of the Rivers State Command was shot and his wife and daughter taken away.
The woman was shot during the incident and was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
“The kidnappers came, scaled the fence and kidnapped a police officer attached to the Rivers State Command named Gamaliel.
“And in the process he kidnapped his wife and daughter. They shot him and a woman in the house. The woman was confirmed dead at the Jalingo Federal Medical Centre. The Command is working to ensure that they are rescued unharmed.”
He said the command was working to ensure the victims were released.

Some residents of the area who spoke to Newslodge said that the kidnappers in large numbers invaded the area around 2 am.
Mazong Ishaya told Newslodge that the kidnappers were heavily armed.
He, however, said that their target was a cleric who lived in the neighborhood, but since they couldn’t find him, they decided to enter the police officer’s house.
He said the kidnappers came from the mountains surrounding the neighborhood that has been serving as an operating base for the kidnappers without the authorities acting to expel them.
