Nigerian army troops raided camps suspected of belonging to unrepentant militants and illegal oil bunkers in the Bayelsa streams and captured an armory.
Army Public Relations Director Onyema Nwachukwu made it known in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Mr Nwachukwu, a Brigadier General, said the operation was carried out by troops from the 5th Battalion operating under the 16th Brigade on Sunday, in the community of Azuzuama in the South Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
He said the troops subdued the suspected militants during the operation with superior firepower and forced them to leave their camp in disorder.
According to him, the well-conducted operation led to the recovery of five AK 47 rifles, two rocket-propelled grenade bombs and four rocket grenade bomb magazines.

He said that the troops also recovered seven special 7.62 mm caliber ammunition, 14 AK 47 rifle magazines and a pumping machine.
“Other items recovered include two 16-inch anchored verves, a mallet hammer, a pipe range spinner, and an axe.
“The illicit camp has been destroyed by the troops.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to express its appreciation to members of the public and urges everyone to continue to provide timely and credible information.
“This will support the ongoing effort by the Nigerian Army to ensure that oil theft in the South-South region comes to a zero level,” he said.
