The House of Representatives has received relevant documents from the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) on the 014 contracts it carried out under the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF).
The ad hoc Committee investigating the NCC’s inability to provide widely available telecommunication networks received the document in Abuja on Wednesday.
NCC Executive Vice President Umar Danbatta presented the documents to the committee, which is also investigating the accruals and use of funds at the USFP.
It should be recalled that the committee, headed by Bamidele Salam, on May 9 demanded details of the projects, including specific addresses and descriptions of the projects.
The committee also required specifications for each of the awarded contracts listed in the 91-page document submitted by NCC.
The committee had noted that there was no specific description of what was done in the contracts and that they were worded in a way that would be difficult to trace.
He also noted that 80% of the projects did not have a specific location.
The NCC was expected to have filed the required documents on May 9, to allow the committee to review them during its next hearing today.
Salam said the NCC submitted the relevant documents late, so they were unable to review them.
“The committee needs to review the documents,” he said, adding that he would contact NCC on another date that would be communicated to them.
Lawmakers frowned at the absence of the CEOs of the telecommunications companies, who were summoned to make presentations at the hearing.
