Elected senators from the center-north have said that the least dignified position in the area was that of vice president of the Senate.
Senator-elect for Nasarawa’s western senatorial district, Ahmed Wadada (SDP-Nasarawa), made the statement on behalf of the north-central caucus of senators-elect at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.
Wadada said the minimum post the area would run for would be vice president of the senate.
He said: “We as a caucus came together and first welcomed the president-elect to his trip and asked for equity in the distribution of leadership to all geopolitical zones.
“Of course we are aware that there are turmoils from various geopolitical zones over the positions of President of the Senate, Vice President of the Senate, Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
“Having been aware of these upheavals, of course, it must be remembered that the Southwest and Northeast have respectfully introduced the President and Vice President.
“The center-north as a result of that is of the position and the position that the minimum position for which we will go is that of vice president of the Senate and this is not only coming today.
“The north-central caucus has been consistent since the beginning of the politics that will lead to the emergence of the leadership of the National Assembly.
“That has always been our position that we are in favor of the Vice President of the Senate position and that is what we stand for.
“We will work in harmony, mutually and cordially with all other geopolitical areas for the good of Nigeria, but without compromising ourselves for any reason.”
He also revealed that the caucus was projecting Sani Musa (APC-Niger) for the position of deputy resident of the 10th Senate.
“We made it clear at our inaugural meeting that we would give the seat to the chair of this caucus, Senator Sani Musa.
“We all agreed with each other that everything that comes to North-central goes to Senator Sani Musa because we are one united family.”
He News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the caucus was made up of members of different political parties from Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Kwara states.
